Spring NeighbourWood Walks – Miracle Beach

I admit it.

I’m an over-extender.

I tend to jam in as much as humanly possible and, some days, the To Do List gets lost in the deep crevasses of my jumbled brain.

After story time at the library, a zoom through the grocery store, lunch on the run, picking up a friend, the weather at Miracle Beach proving magical for our fun walk in the forest there yesterday and the return home I, not-so-surprisingly, crashed on the floor of the tiny person’s bedroom while trying to get her to sleep.

I woke up, toward the end of the American Idol finale, only to remember that I had a TON of work left to do and was supposed to – at that very moment – be at my monthly book club group.

Some days are better – or at least more focused – than others:)

Focused or not, yesterday’s walk was lovely and the kiddos got a chance to check out a gorgeous forest, some salmon returning to the sea and a few even caught some mega low-tide action on the beach.

Mother Nature, she’s on board with us. I think Miracle Beach was the only place it didn’t pour yesterday.

One of the best parts of the Miracle Beach trails is that you basically get to see an entire ecosystem in action – from river to ocean – a rare treat that really gives us an amazing glimpse at the coolness that is nature on Vancouver Island.

The score of the day – in the kid universe – was most definitely the giant dirt hill near the end of the trail, excellent for races and ensuring a hose down afterward, and the banana slugs.

Our fourth walk, planned for next Wednesday (May 28), will be out at the Lazo Marsh Loop. If you are registered, we are meeting at 1 p.m. and I highly recommend boots as well as a camera. This easy loop is the perfect length for preschool legs and full of fascinating finds to keep any nature kid roaring around in discover mode.
