This Week - New Ownership, Shellfish & Pools
It may not look like a week before Summer, but even if Mother Nature has decided to once again gift us with a freezing cold June (I remember being in sweaters, toques and wool socks this same weekend last year), there are lots of good times to warm up chilly hands and feet.
I’m particularly excited to announce that Little Me Consignment on Cliffe Avenue in Courtenay is now officially under new management after former owner Dana Watson decided to trade her brief case in for some well-deserved focused family time.
New owners Sherry Turnbull and Kristina Jespersen are taking this great consignment shop to the next level, building in a green component including bringing in a cloth diaper expert, all kinds of organic and non-toxic baby gear and more. So, be sure to get on over to 105-2270 Cliffe Ave. to meet Sherry and Kristina, check out all of the goodness and support a great local business.
Here’s what’s happening around the Valley this week:
- The 22nd annual Father’s Day Kitefly is this Sunday out at the Goose Spit. Registration for this FREE, fun event will be at Noon with the kitefly from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Lots of prizes and good times, not to mention an awesome way to spend the afternoon with Dad. - Get your tickets now for the Comox Valley Shellfish Festival which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Comox Marina Park. There are lots of fun events including a Kids on the Quay program, live music, the farmers market and educational booths. Call 890-7561 for more information.
- The outdoor pool at Lewis Park is now open. Open swims are from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with weekend swims from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through June 22. Call 338-5371 for more information.
- WildSpirit is offering three Summer day camps for kiddos in July and August. The summer camps are a great way to learn new skills and practice skills learned in previous programs. Every week is unique depending on the participants, their interests and what is happening in Nature. Through games and exploration, the groups will work together to deepen their awareness and knowledge of plants, mammals, tracking, birds and survival.

- The CV Aquatic Centre is closed for annual maintenance from June 1 to July 1. If you need to log some pool or gym time, make sure to check the schedules at the CV Sports Centre next to Vanier and head over there.
- Registration for Comox Valley Boys & Girls Club Summer Camps will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at 367 11th Street in Courtenay. These two-week day camps are fun and accessible to kids of all ages. Call 338-7582 for more information.
- Get your basketball-minded kiddos registered now for the annual CV Summer Basketball Camp. The camp, which takes youth from grades 4 to 12, runs June 30 to July 4 at locations around the Valley. Call Larry or Grant at 338-9262 for more information.
- Island Spirit Sports is now registering youth ages 6 to 18 for Summer cheer camps and programs. Registration is Wednesday. So, check out the website for the program schedule or call 703-1194 for more information.
