Live Green at MusicFest

Enough about food for a few minutes.

I just wanted to take a moment this afternoon to take a peek inside some major coolness at Vancouver Island MusicFest which, if you haven’t scored tickets already, is this weekend. So, get on it.

Our Big Earth Media Co. and a handful of other great organizations are Living Green at MusicFest this year, supporting the progressive, Earth-friendly initiatives that lessen the impact on the planet from one of the largest musics festivals in B.C. (and one of the best in North America).

THESE INITIATIVES INCLUDE:

• Fair trade policies for our Craft Vendors
•Biodegradable beer cups in the Festival Pub
• Fun, interactive eco-education activities for all ages
• New plastics free policies for our Food Vendors (phase 1)
• Bike Lock Ups and Alternative Transportation promotion
• Introduction of ‘Litterless Lunches’ for our Volunteer Kitchen
• Comprehensive sorting, composting and recycling of all site waste
• Replacement of all kitchen plastics with paper and biodegradable alternatives
• Fair trade coffee, tea, chocolate and sugar for our Performer and Volunteer Kitchens
• Participatory Community Mapping of our watershed, estuaries and recreation spots
• “Vancouver Island Tap Water” initiative to dramatically reduce plastic water bottle use
• Working with and promoting local and sustainable food producers, fishermen and distributors
• Audience education programs about the fairgrounds and the fragile ecosystem of the Tsolum River

There is a great Living Green crew this year that I encourage you to check out including folks like:

- The Tsolum River Restoration Society

- Project Watershed

- Living Oceans Society

- Tidechange.ca

- B.C. Creeks Protection Society

- CUPE B.C.

- Comox Valley Auto Recyclers

- The Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce

- The Comox Valley Regional District

- B.C. Ferries

The Living Green area will be booming all weekend at Music Fest. So be sure to drop by and say hi to everyone in the Main Bowl as well as check out all of the great initiatives making the Comox Valley music scene one of the hottest, and greenest, around.
