The day didn’t necessary start off on the brightest foot. Rain, rain, rain – that was the forecast for Sunday. But, with a 40X40 heated tent, happy spirits and a sense of creative flexibility we headed out for a day of celebrating our heritage.

Thankfully, the sunshine made an appearance just about the time we got everything from log cabin and stained glass making to tin punching (the hit of the day) to apple and squash painting set up and local families came out to be a part of the 100-Year Celebration of Robert Filberg’s arrival in the Comox Valley at the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park.

We had dozens of families enjoying some seriously old skool fun, with kids of all ages really getting into projects, painting, gluing, nailing, enjoying celebratory cake and, of course, Cumberland Bakery donuts.

One of the coolest things we had the chance to create as a community was a Heritage No-Sew Quilt public art project that so many kids really got into. Even the parents jumped in to take part in putting together a gorgeous mosaic of heritage fabrics and colors that will be hung in the Planet Kids Comox window later this week.

We had such a great time and SOOOOOOO loved all of the smiling faces that spent hours creating with us. I’d especially like to thank the Filberg Lodge and Heritage Association for inviting us to create this experience for local families.
We couldn’t have done it without our volunteers including Pam Watson and her daughters Stephanie and Laura, Meaghan Cursons, Nicola North, Bevin Clempson, Marcie Dumais, Alix Wilson, Cumberland Bakery, The Dollar Store in the Comox Centre Mall and so much work put in by my sweet husband Ken.

Check out all of the photos (not too many, I was so busy helping kiddos make hands to add to the quilt) HERE.
