Send Your Letters to Santa via Canada Post

Posted by Robin Rivers on December 8th, 2009 3 Comments Printer-Friendly

Editor’s Note: If you missed our morning post, check out some easy ideas for making holiday cards HERE. Now, it’s all about getting that special letter off to Santa (and getting one back from the big guy) thanks to Canada Post. HOHOHO.:)

You know Dasher and Dancer, maybe even Prancer and Vixen. But, did you know that Santa answers every, single letter sent via Canada Post every year?

Santa and the Post are long-time pals.

Heck, Canada Post even set up a very special mailing address near the big guy’s house to make sure that Canadian kiddos have a direct line to the King of Christmas himself.

Canada Post is one of the few Postal services in the world that hooks kiddos up with Santa (seriously, every letter is answered by Post elves). It all started back in the 1970s when the Montreal office started seeing a ton of holiday letters come through addressed to St. Nicholas. Sweet employees couldn’t bear the thought of kiddos not getting an answer from Santa. So, they started answering them. The official Santa Claus response program was kicked off in 1983 and Santa gets about 1 million letters a year from all over the world – every one of them answered.

Santa even got his own postal code: HOH OHO (or ho ho ho)

_write-e

A pal reminded me recently that it was time to get focused and get those letters written so that they are assured to reach Santa in time for his elves to get busy making some lead-free gems.

And, whoa are there some super fun, super easy ways to spice up those letters, think a bit eco-mindedly by sending them via e-mail, and even get in some games and learning in the process.

The lo-down on the whole process is best mapped out over at Canada Post. You can get letter templates and learn how to send letters. Santa will be able to respond to letters mailed right up until Dec. 16 at:

SANTA CLAUS
NORTH POLE H0H 0H0
CANADA

But, the serious fun also comes in the form of crafts, songs, games.

I’m in love.

Having just the right paper for the occasion is really quite critical. Canada Post has some great ones too (see the image above for an example). I found some extra special gems over at Scrapbook Central in Courtenay too.

If you want to go paper-free and e-mail the big guy, check out Canada Post.

And, while you’re at it, you may as well download Goodge Earth because you know you’re going to have to be doing the super cool thing and tracking the big guy via the NORAD Santa site. This year, they even have a downloadable countdown widget and some other cool techno stuff to make watching Santa’s course big, big, big!

Here comes Santa Claus!!!
