Dispose of Your Christmas Tree for Charity

Posted by Robin Rivers on January 1st, 2010 No Comments Printer-Friendly

Good Morning and Happy 2010. Now that the holidays are wrapping up, it’s time to find a green, easy and community-minded way to dispose of your Christmas Tree.

The three Comox Valley municipalities and the Comox Valley Regional District are offering you some great options for doing just that, and giving back in the process. Here are the details by location for Christmas tree disposal:

Green1204091

Christmas trees can be dropped off for chipping at the following locations:

- Saturday, Jan. 2 and Sunday, Jan. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Comox fire hall, 1870 Noel Avenue, Comox and the Courtenay fire department, 650 Cumberland Road, Courtenay. Donations will go to local charities.

- The Town of Comox and the City of Courtenay also offer home pick up of Christmas trees for a minimum $5 donation by calling their fire halls:

Comox: 250-339-2432
Courtenay: 250-334-2513

- Sunday, Jan. 3 from 10 a.m to 3:00 p.m., Cumberland fire department, 2679 Dunsmuir Road, Cumberland

- Saturday, January 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Campbell River Sportsplex, 1800 South Alder St., Campbell River Fire Hall #1, 675-13th Avenue. This is a joint initiative supported by the City of Campbell River’s sustainability department and the Campbell River Professional Fire Fighters with all donations going to Campbell River Hospital Foundation.

- Christmas trees will be accepted free of charge at Comox Valley Waste Management Centre, Pidgeon Lake Road in Cumberland and the Campbell River Waste Management Centre, 6700 Argonaut Road. Both waste management centres are open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

- Christmas trees that are cut in half with each half no longer than three feet in length will also be picked up on regular yard waste pick up days in Courtenay and Comox, starting January 4th, 2009.
