A Sneak Peek at This Year's Earth Day Family Fest

Editor’s Note: If you missed it this morning, we had a review of great Earth Day-focused books from Usborne (and a giveaway). You can find it HERE. Now, it’s time to get the scoop on the fun Earth Day Family Fest, which kicks off next Saturday. Hope you are having a lovely weekend!

April is really the beginning of the year here at OBE as it marks our first big community event of 2010 – the Earth Day Family Fest in partnership with Vancouver Island Music Fest and World Community.

This is the second year OBE has taken the helm of the Family Pod area of this fun event and we are so excited to give you a sneak peek at the line up of family activities that get us all learning a bit more about the environment, getting our creative vibe on and having a great time.

Earth Day Family Festival is a free, community-centered event that runs  from 10 a.m. to  4 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at Simms Park in Courtenay.

This year’s Earth Day theme is “Biodiversity – celebrating nature, culture and community”. The whole Comox Valley is invited to be part of this full day of free interactive learning, live music, community displays, fun-filled hands-on kids activities, live demos and so much more! Earth Day Family Festival is truly “community in action” where organizations and individuals come together in a celebration and exchange of ideas, inspiration and tools for life on planet Earth.

One of the most exciting things we get to do this year is help kids and families who head on over to Simms Park create a public art biodiversity mural that combines creativity and environmental awareness. Kids can come and add an animal to the mural that is part of the Canada’s amazing biosphere.

After we are all finished, the mural will make its way to the halls of the Robert Bateman Get to Know Program (OBE is a national partner) where it will be displayed as part of this year’s national campaign to get children back outside.
