Back-to-School Craft – Daily Schoolwork Organizers

| August 24, 2010 | 5 Comments

Whether your kids are off to public school in September or you’re gearing up the house for another year of homeschooling, getting them into a routine that allows them to be organized, know a bit of what they are learning about every day and feeling confident that they are getting all of their school work done takes a bit of creativity.

Keeping up with the learning process and making sure we are hitting all of the bases is a bit of a trick for parents too. Just staying on top of it all seems like a full-time job some days.

Here is a fun, simple way to organize your homeschooler’s daily lessons, offer up some daily homework helpers for kids who need a little extra boost in one area or another or just setting up daily projects for your kids like crafts, science and more that give them something to do in the mornings or when they get home from school other than electronics.

We use these Days of the Week boxes as a way to get the school day started. Our kindergartener can get up and find her box that matches the day and start on the one or two projects we tuck in the box the night before. These are relatively simple projects like practicing printing, cutting or coloring pages that she can do on her own and feel accomplished before the more in-depth lessons start after breakfast.

She loves the routine and surprises that pop up in the boxes each day. I love that they are super easy to make and force me to be a bit more organized as well.

OOOOOOOOOOO I like this one – even within my limited crafting ability, this one is do-able! Cheers.

Robin, it works great if your kid is like ours (ha, like I don’t know the answer to that one) because they can get up on their own, get started on their first project of the day and even have some *gasp* quiet time working on a project that won’t frustrate them while you are getting caffeinated.

I would think this would work really great for older preschoolers as well who need a project of their own in the morning.
    :)

  3. Carol Anne says:

you are too organized Robin – you are going to put my homeschooling to shame:) All in jest, I could probably learn something from this idea!

  4. Alison says:

Robin – did you just manage to collect boxes that were all the same size or do you have a source for that? I was thinking of checking if any of the shoe stores have any to give away…but otherwise??

  5. Robin Rivers says:

    Alison,

I got them from Scrapbook Central initially. They were leftover from another project and we reused them.
