Chinese New Year Crafts – Paper Dragon Puppets

| January 25, 2011 | 2 Comments

The Lunar New Year is nearly upon us with celebrations beginning Feb. 3. It’s a celebration that we get geared up for every year and the oldest kiddo has always loved learning about the traditions surrounding it. This year – even though it’s the year of the rabbit – is really all about the dragon for her. So, we found a fun craft for paper dragon puppets at Enchanted Learning and got right down to the celebration.

Here’s what you need:

  • A sheet of yellow and a sheet of red construction paper
  • glitter or sequins
  • feathers
  • glue stick and hot glue gun
  • scissors
  • two BBQ skewers or chopsticks

Directions:

1. Cut out a dragon head and tail from the yellow paper. Then decorate them with glitter, sequins and feathers.

2. Take the red paper, fold it in half the long way and cut it. Then, fold each sheet like an accordion and glue together to make a long body.

3. Glue the head and tail on.

It’s ready for some great play time and learning. We had fun with this one.
