Monday Morning Moms – Simple Elegance of Scarves

| November 14, 2011 | 0 Comments

I go through phases with clothes. I once had an orange phase that lasted years and I’m not entirely sure I’ve actually left yet. I’m still going through a fairly intense hat phase. I’ve regretted a few hair phases, forgave myself for the over-loving floral prints phase. Scarves have always been a big part of my wardrobe – especially in the colder months. But, this year, they have become the one wardrobe staple I cannot do without. I’m totally going through a scarf phase.

The simplest of scarves can turn a plain jane button-down shirt and jeans into something a bit more elegant or fun. They make me feel like I’ve finished getting dressed every day and I can head out the door. Plus, unless you buy something completely obscene, scarves are timeless. I’m all about the classic timelessness of clothes – since I pretty much have time in my life to buy a pair of jeans once a year. Clothes and styles need to be able to go the distance.

For a change, I seem to actually be up on real-time fashion trends this year as well. Scarves are popping up everywhere I turn and it’s been great fun to go through the scar racks at stores or even in thrift shops again (I find my best ones there). While I love that extra bit of fabric around my neck, I am no expert in tying those babies in ways that make them look fashionable.

Then, I was cruising through the Coldwater Creek website recently and got an awesome tutorial (click on that link to get the full-sized version that is much easier to read) on how to tie a scarf that I couldn’t resist sharing.

After that one I was totally inspired and scored some great scarves from them to give the new techniques a try on. Now I am feeling the scarf love this year and ready to tackle the world with a nice, warm, fashionable neck.

What’s your fashion obsession this season. Give us some inspiration this morning. Monday needs a little style.:)
