Spring Kids Books – Eggs & Rainbows

| March 29, 2012 | 0 Comments

When it comes to books that celebrate certain seasons, it has to be those beauties that are all about Spring with their sweet shades of yellow, purple and green, sparkly wonderment and of course a hefty does of Easter eggs that long live on our shelves because they are so darn – well – they’re pretty.

The tiny person crew at OBE HQ is all about the books, and we have been on the hunt for a few gems that keep the interest of the toddler crowd while still adding a bit of wonderment to the life of the jaded 6-year-old crowd. Thankfully, we have Maureen’s book collection over at the Brooklyn Elementary StrongStart Program for some serious inspiration.

It was there where we discovered two Spring-time gems that will definitely join the well-loved section of books at our house.

The wee one spotted Ten Little Eggs by Jean Marzollo and was convinced instantly that it needed to come home with us for what she considered obvious reasons. I mean come on, colored eggs, chicks being born, everyone is turning different shades of goodness with a rhyme and some simple counting mixed in. Genius.

We got it at home and both of the kids loved it just as much. Our oldest daughter is all about Easter good times. So, this fit the bill perfectly. The wee one is now running around the house with the book, pointing at the eggs and saying “Chicks…peep, peep, peep.” Such cuteness.

That was matched only by the more involved, yet just as precious Little Pip and the Rainbow Wish by Elizabeth Baguley and Caroline Pedler. This sweet story about a little field mouse who wants to give something truly special to his friends and sets out to catch a sparkling rainbow had some serious wow factor in our neck of the woods. The wee one didn’t want to sit through the whole story. But, whoa if she wouldn’t come back over and over again to see the next part. The big kid, well, she was pretty much over the moon with nature, rainbows, friends and just a smidge of magic.

As the adult in the group, I was so happy to find these to kick off our Spring reading good times with some fun and imagination. Now we have all sorts of ideas for brightening things up a bit and some great stories to go along with them. Highly recommended!

Speaking of recommendations, we always try our hardest to support local, independent booksellers. But, if you do buy online, please consider clicking on and completing your purchases through the links above. When you do that, you support OBE and our ability to bring you fresh, fun and lively content.

Happy Spring!
