Earth Day Books – Picture A Tree by Barbara Reid

This time of year is one of our favorites around OBE HQ for so many reasons. The flowers are blooming, buds everywhere and the smells of Spring make us want to run around in shorts and flipflops 24-7. It’s also the time when we get to give it up for Mother Nature as Earth Day celebrations kick off this week. MN is pretty incredible. Toes in the sand on a walk along the oceanfront can make you quite sure of that if there is any question.
The stories that connect us to this amazing time of year full of newness are usually the kind that make you feel like you have your toes in the sand or happen to be staring up at the sunshine through a forest of trees.
Trees is where our adventures in storytelling takes us today with Picture A Tree by Barbara Reid.

This book came to us courtesy of Barbara Reid herself and we were so very excited to crack it open. The mysterious lives of trees are the stuff of magic around these parts.
So, getting into the adventures and seasons in the lives of trees was just what the imagination ordered. We thought of ways love leaves and buds, homes for animals and food for the forest. We got to use our inner movie screens to create scenes in the forest or the edge of the meadow or walking down a neighborhood street where trees were the center of the action.
Barbara Reid takes simple words and beautiful plasticine illustrations and brings our leafy friends to life.
Children from about 2 right through into early grades will love this colorful book that we all agreed was more like getting to know the personalities of trees than the science of them. It’s one of those books that comes off the shelf when we need a little nature whimsy.
Picture A Tree is also a super way to introduce kids to and get them excited about trees. A great kids read for sure.
We always urge you to purchase this and your other books at your local independent bookseller (can you smell the stacks of books and sweet smiling faces?). But, if you do buy online, consider supporting OBE by clicking on the link to the book up above and completing your purchase from there.
