Vancouver Islanders Are Swapping Costumes This Weekend
It’s the day after Thanksgiving, which means one thing to kids all across Canada – time to get cracking on the coolest Halloween costumes EVER!
For mom and dad, it is bittersweet. We dig into those old boxes in the basement, hoping something from last year or an old tickle trunk goodie will be the golden ticket to an easygoing costume-finding experience this year. It’s a dream we all love to entertain but rarely get past the nostalgia of our kids in costumes past. Now, all we want to do is get rid of those old costumes (one less box in the basement) and not argue with our kids about costumes right up until they leave to trick-or-treat on Oct. 31.

Folks all across Vancouver Island have traded in their annual trip to the big box costume aisle for some more community-based, green, money-savvy and super cool fun – costume swapping.
National Costume Swap Day™ Canada - brought to you by the cool folks at UsedEverywhere.com – has taken Western Canada by storm this year. Parents are gathering old costumes, kids are plotting for scoring something awesome, and it’s all happening THIS WEEKEND.

There are six swaps on Vancouver Island this year including:
Campbell River – Sandowne School
Comox – Brooklyn Elementary
Qualicum Beach – at a private home
Nanaimo – 4Cats Arts Studio Nanaimo
Victoria – UsedVictoria.com at Oaklands Community Centre
Victoria – 4Cats Arts Studio Oak Bay
The swaps are open to the public and most will be held this Saturday, Oct. 13 (check your individual swap for specific details) This is a great way to kick off the Halloween season and get creative. It’s easy – drop off your costumes in advance and then go and swap. You’ll be excited, relieved and feeling mighty awesome afterward.
Happy swapping!
In the spirit of full disclosure, National Costume Swap Day Canada is produced by the team here at Our Big Earth Media Co. Pretty cool, eh?:)
