Books For Treats™ Canada – Beginnings:

Books For Treats™ began with a simple idea from founder Rebecca Morgan – less candy, more creativity. It blossomed into an international movement to create a community of young readers through fun ways to connect to the stories of our lives. Canada joins the movement in 2012 to tell the stories of kids and families from coast to coast through the simple act of giving out books as an alternative to candy this Halloween.

While promoting literacy, social responsibility and helping to curb childhood obesity, kids have fun, get something cool, stay safe and feed their brains with a tasty helping of creativity. They will still come home with a pile of treats and some serious smiles. A few of those goodies will just last a bit longer and be cause for unrestrained imagination.

Books For Treats™ Canada – The Experience:

Books For Treats Canada gets books into the trick-or-treat bags of children and youth across Canada. When they reach in to pull out stories in addition to that chocolate bar or Tootsie pop, they’ll take a journey into imagination that’s about the mystery and creativity of Halloween.

It makes storytelling through books doable, fun, charming and personally engaging for everyone because it’s simple and it’s cool. Turn into a vampire, ghost or zombie, go have fun, score some candy and find something you love in book form.

Books For Treats™ Canada – A New Tradition to Love:

Kids and Youth: It’s about the experience, not the classroom. Creating a sense of pop culture around books gives them a reason to love them without parents or institutions telling them to.

Moms and Dads: A great mix of candy, creativity and culture that is all about kids having fun, not about taking away from the nostalgia of trick-or-treating.

Communities: An opportunity to establish progressive holiday traditions that key in on supporting education, social responsibility and safe kids that fold into and bolster already established events.

 

Books For Treats™ Canada: The Event

Date: Books For Treats Canada will be celebrated throughout the month of October, 2012 with events culminating in a mass book distribution at Halloween celebrations across Canada on Wednesday Oct. 31, 2012.

Location: Cities and towns across Canada

Hosts: Books For Treats Canada is organized and produced by Our Big Earth Media Co. and is a trademark of Books For Treats (U.S.)

Attire: Events will be held in conjunction with community Halloween celebrations. Zombies, princesses, goblins and ghouls will all be in attendance.

 

How Books End Up In Trick-Or-Treat Bags:

Community-based: As a part of community Halloween celebrations, libraries, bookstores, groups and literacy organizations in towns across Canada will be hosting their own Books For Treats Canada Book Patch giveaway events.

Individual Household: Families can get into the spirit at home as Books For Treats Canada gives them all of the resources, tips and tricks for giving out books as an alternative to candy at their doorstep this Halloween.
