KID-LED LEARNING
Helping kids learn in the way that makes the most sense to each of them is a constant challenge for parents. Here at Our Big Earth, we offer you tips, tricks and tools to learn more about educational options in the region including:
- Teacher and Saltwater School founder Rebecca Watkin takes us on a journey into the world of Waldorf education through arts and crafts, philosophy and tools to help families.
- Preschool professional Heather Magdanz helps young parents maneuver the pitfalls of helping toddlers and preschoolers get ready for school. She brings you ideas for dealing with everything from challenging behavior to building skills.
- A crew of Comox Valley public school teachers tackles some of the complicated issues and exciting times for kids in public school.
- Guest columnists including Louisa McClellan, Rosina Huber and Susan Spyker plug us in to the resources for homeschoolers in the region.
- Gayle Bates brings her legendary wit and charm to OBE with her Recycled Learning column where she focuses on environmental education for families and kids.
RAINY-DAY BOOK CLUB
Fostering family literacy is one of the driving forces here at Our Big Earth. Through our community partnership with Courtenay’s Laughing Oyster Books, programming and our Rainy-Day Book Club, OBE offers parents the tools to connect with kids through stories.
We review books twice monthly here on Our Big Earth, helping parents to find gems for kids on every topic from nature and animals to childhood classics.
